A native of the Sunshine Coast, Gene Quinlan completed his apprenticeship locally. He then headed to Melbourne, gaining valuable experience at Donovan's, a restaurant renowned for producing quality young chefs. There, Gene worked under the tutelage of celebrated chef, Robert Castellani,. Gene then went west to Broome gaining experience in restaurant management at eminent local resorts.
